My album of the month in April was…

Vol.II by Angine de Poitrine

Like many, I’ve been entranced in the hypnotic funk of Angine de Poitrine.
“Angina Pectoris” is the English translation of that, by the way. Their newest album “Vol.II” is my album of the month for April 2026 (and my first ‘Album of the Month’ ever!)

Track 1: Fabienk ★

Sebastien!

This is my anthem this month. I especially like the second half of the song, where the bass seems to like walk back on itself, sort of…not sure exactly how to describe it but it itches a very specific itch. This song makes me move like none other - like full-body bouncing along to the song.

Track 2: Mata Zyklek

In French, the word motorcycle is “motocyclette” (moto-see-klet), which I believe is the inspiration for this song. This is supported by the fact the single cover for this song was Khn and Klek on motorcycles.

I’ll be honest, this one isn’t my favourite, but I still enjoyed it.

Fun Fact: as of writing this, if you type “Angine de Poitrine” into Google, you’ll get a fun little polka dots animation.

Track 3: Sarniezz

AdP Boppin

The first song most of us ever heard, played first in their viral KEXP set. Also not released as a single, unreleased when I first discovered AdP, I wanted to be able to listen to this song on Spotify so bad.

Track 4: Utzp

This one, to me, was overwhelming. If there’s one song on this album I disliked, it’s this one. It’s funky, don’t get me wrong, but some of the noisier bits just left me overstimulated. I know, it’s what you sign up for listening to this album, but I guess I just had trouble finding the rhythm so it just became noise.

Track 5: Yor Zarad

I can’t help but get like James Bond vibes from this song - I don’t really know why, I just do. Maybe it’s the calm, then suspense, then calm, then suspense. I’d like to see it edited over a 007 action/chase scene. Also the rhythm-heavy last minute of the song made me headbang big time!

Headbanging

Track 6: Angor

Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun… great song for focus actually - the rhythm puts me in the zone. This paragraph was the easiest and quickest to write because of it! A great song to end the album with, in my opinion this song is a combination of all the best parts of Angine de Poitrine’s amazing & unique sound.

Conclusion

I think this album and this band will go down in history. Their unique sound is unmatched in my opinion, and their virality and timing of it will mean this band is never forgotten. In a time when AI is super-saturating the world with generated garbage, Angine de Poitrine feels like spitting in the face of our ‘AI overlords’ - and I’m here for it!
